The Uganda Wildlife Education Center commonly known as Entebbe Zoo shares boundaries with the magnificent 6,784 yards, par 71 golf course, Entebbe Golf Club. Founded in 1901, it stands to be the the oldest golf course in East and Central Africa famous for it’s long-protruding pine trees that shape its roughs and mower smooth fairways. Hitting long and playing smart will save you an uncountable number of strokes, whereas the manicured greens will give you an exuberant putting experience throughout your round.
To add to the joys of golf round, the Tee-boxes of Hole 3 and 12 provide a spectacular panorama view of the great Lake Victoria. Hole 3 extensively provides a sneak pic into the Zoo for a sight on the giant White Rhinos and at given times chimpanzees on the neighabouring tee-box of hole 4. The course is often visited by a large number of vervet and colobus monkeys that feed and play around the course. A mere stroll from the golf course will get you to places like the Uganda Museum, a place to see the roots, civilization changes and growth of Uganda, the cultural center commonly known as Ndere center where one will feel the taste of almost more than 50 cultural varieties in Uganda. The national theater for music, dance and drama is minutes away and the famous Kasubi Tombs, a world heritage site and home of all history of one of the greatest kingdoms (Buganda) of Uganda. Located in Fort Portal, western Uganda, 45 minutes from Kibale National park, the course has 9 holes with mature trees lining the long sweep of the fairways and the Rwenzori Mountains hovering in the distance. This park is abundant with over 351 tree species, 330 bird species, 70 mammal species and 13 primate species with chimpanzees inclusive. Kibale is also well known as one of Africa’s research sites with great research emphasis put on the primates.The park harbors and also provides great experiences in forest birding and Chimpanzee tracking. One can also spot other wildlife like;- buffaloes, leopards, bush pigs, elephants, amphibians, reptiles and a variety of colorful butterflies.
Situated right in the heart of Mountain Gorilla Country is Garuga Golf Resort and Country Club. The course is situated in the misty valleys overshadowed by the cloud piecing peaks of the Virunga Mountains– home of the fabled Mountain Gorillas. However, before you trek the Gorillas, you first have to trek this lengthy 18 holes, Par 71 golf course. This is Uganda’s longest Golf Course with a rolling landscape of savannah grasses, undulating fairways, elevated tees and big sky, golfers not only have to hit it long, but also control their ball flight and direction.
Neighboring this course is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to over 50% of the world’s Mountain Gorilla population and several habituated groups that are open for tracking. The forest is also a bird-watcher paradise with 350 species recorded, including many Albertine Rift endemics. Nine other primate species are found in the forest including chimpanzee, olive baboon, black-and-white colobus and monkeys. Bushbucks and several types of forest duikers can sometimes be spotted.
